Pirates Complete Season-Sweep of Renegades

Ventura freshman Kyle Spiegelman won his No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-0, then teamed up with Antonio Rosales to win at No. 1 doubles, 8-0 as VC defeated Bakersfield 9-0 on Thursday afternoon.

The Pirates' men's tennis team completed Western State Conference play by completing a season-sweep of Bakersfield College on the road Thursday afternoon. VC blanked the Renegades 9-0 for the second time this season, led by Antonio Rosales, Kyle Spiegelman and Thiago Batista, all of whom posted love and love victories in singles play. Rosales and Spiegelman also won their doubles match 8-0 for Ventura (11-4, 5-2).

Rosales posted his shutout victory in No. 2 singles while Spiegelman won in No. 2 singles. Batista pitched his shutout in the No. 3 slot. James Moulton and Eric Rodriguez each posted 6-1, 6-1 triumphs in Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively while Charles De La Laurencie was a 6-1, 6-3 winner in the No. 1 spot.

In doubles, Rosales and Spiegelman won their No. 1 match while Batista and Moulton were victorious at No. 2, 8-1. Jaime Valdez and Rodriguez also posted an 8-2 win in No. 3 doubles.

Ventura closes the regular season at home on Friday March 29 with a non-conference match gainst Grossmont College. Doubles play begins at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
