VC freshman Thiago Batista had a golden set, winning 24 straight points in his love, love win in No. 5 singles Tuesday as the Pirates defeated Santa Barbara 8-1.

After multiple re-schedulings, the Pirates' men's tennis team finally faced Santa Babrara City College, coming away with an 8-1 victory at Pershing Park on Tuesday. Thiago Batista highlighted the day with a golden set, producing 24 straight winners in his 6-0, 6-0 victory in No. 5 singles. He then teamed up with Jacob Boucher for an 8-0 win in No. 3 doubles for the Pirates (6-3, 2-2).

Kyle Spiegelman began the day with a win in No. 3 singles when his opponent retired trailing 5-0, and Alexandre Campolina prevailed in No. 4 singles when his opponent was disqualified with Campolina ahead 4-1. Batista then posted his win, then Antonio Rosales won his No. 1 singles contest, 6-1, 6-2. Charles De La Laurencie clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles.

In doubles, Rosales and Spiegelman won in No. 1 singles, 8-2.

The Pirates next host Bakersfield on Thursday March 14. Singles matches begin at 2:00pm at the VC Tennis Center.
