VC Men Defeat De Anza to Close Regular Season

The Ventura College men's tennis team closed the regular season Saturday at the VC Tennis Center with a 6-3 victory over De Anza College. Rodrigo Perdigao was the Pirates' only double winner on the day, partnering with Hamilton Walker to win the No. 3 doubles match, and also prevailing in his No. 4 singles contest. Florent Auteuil posted the most decisive victory of the day with a love and love triumph in No. 6 singles for VC (16-4, 10-0). 

The Pirates opened with a pair of victories in doubles play. Perdigao and Walker won in the No. 3 slot, 8-1, and Augustin Lestelle and Damon Mitchell posted an identical 8-1 score in the No. 2 doubles contest. Bill Whitaker and Cruz Thayne narrowly lost in No. 1 doubles, 9-8, preventing a Pirate sweep.

In singles, Auteuil dominated the No. 6 match and Whitaker won in the No. 1 spot, 6-0, ret. Perdigao win in No. 4, two and love, while Thayne was victorious in No. 3, 6-3, 6-2.

The Pirates will shift attention to individual singles and doubles play at the Western State Conference Championships at the VC Tennis Center beginning Friday April 7.  The Pirates will begin the CCCAA SoCal dual team playoffs on Tuesday April 11.
