Pirates Sweep BC to Complete Undefeated WSC Campaign

VC freshman Augustin Lestelle blanked his opponent love and love in No. 2 singles, then teamed up with Rodrigo Perdigao to win in No. 2 doubles, 8-1 as VC defeated Bakersfield to complete an undefeated WSC campaign Tuesday.
VC freshman Augustin Lestelle blanked his opponent love and love in No. 2 singles, then teamed up with Rodrigo Perdigao to win in No. 2 doubles, 8-1 as VC defeated Bakersfield to complete an undefeated WSC campaign Tuesday.

The Ventura College men's tennis team punctuated its 2017 Western State Conference championship with a 9-0 sweep at Bakersfield on Tuesday, completing an undefeated conference campaign. The victory was the Pirates' 10th this season in WSC play without a setback, and their 27th straight conference triumph dating back to March 6, 2014.

Augustin Lestelle and Rodrigo Perdigao led the way with victories at Nos. 2 and 3 singles, respectively and together at No. 2 doubles. Lestelle won love, while Perdigao posted a love, one victory.  Together they won 8-1.

Hamilton Walker posted a  one and love win at No. 6 singles while Florent Auteuil prevailed in No. 5 singles, 6-3, 6-1.  The two also won in No. 3 doubles, 8-0.  Meanwhile, Bill Whitaker posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 1 singles and Damon Mitchell was a 6-4, 6-1 winner in No. 4 singles.  They also teamed up to win No. 1 doubles, 8-0.

VC (14-4, 10-0) will host San Diego Mesa on Friday March 31 and De Anza on Saturday April 1 in make-ups of earlier rain-outs.
