The Ventura College men's tennis team notched another victory Tuesday with a 7-2 non-conference win over visiting Riverside at the VC Tennis Center. Bill Whitaker was a winner in singles and doubles, as was Cruz Thayne and Rodrigo Perdigao. Florent Auteuil also was a winner in singles for the Pirates (9-2, 7-0).
Whitaker prevailed in No. 1 singles 6-2 7-5, then teamed up with Thayne to take the No. 1 doubles match 8-3. Thayne was also victorious in No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-0. Perdigao won in No. 4 singles, 7-5, 6-0, and paired with Manu Rowe to take No. 3 doubles, 8-4. Auteuil came from behind in the No. 6 singles slot, 4-6, 6-2, 10-8, while Augustin Lestelle and Damon Mitchell won their No. 2 doubles match, 8-6.
Ventura resumes Western State Conference play on Thursday March 16, hosting Victor Valley at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center. They will travel to Fresno on Friday and Saturday, march 17-18 for the annual North/South Challenge.
