The Ventura College men's tennis team swept its Western State Conference opener Thursday 9-0 against Victor Valley College in Victorville. The Pirates (1-1, 1-0) barely lost a game over the nine matches, welcoming the rams to the WSC from the now-defunct Foothill Conference.
VC sept the singles competition with Bill Whitaker (No. 2), Manu Rowe (No. 3), Cruz Thayne (No. 4), Florent Auteuil (No. 5) and Hamilton Walker (no. 6) all sweeping their contests love and love. Augustin Lestelle (No. 1) also won his match, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles, Whitaker and Thayne (No. 2) along with Rowe and Walker (No. 3) blanked their opponents 8-0. Lestelle and Auteuil (No. 1) won their doubles match 8-5.
With weather-related cancelations for the upcoming weekend already, the Pirates will next host Los Angeles Pierce on Tuesday Feb. 21 at 2:00 pm at the VC Tennis Center.
