In their final regular season match of the year Ventura College men's tennis picked up their seventh shutout of the year with a 9-0 win over San Diego Mesa. Ventura swept all three doubles matches and won two of them in commanding fashion. On the singles side of play the Pirates only dropped two sets along the way. Hironori Koyanagi allowed just one point in singles play.

Ventura (14-2, 8-0) rebounded from a disappointing showing against Cerritos to cap their season with a dominating performance. The Pirates were tested at No. 1 doubles as the Pirates picked up a two point win 8-6 behind the team of Koyanagi and Corey Karen. VC dominated the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles matches with 8-3 wins.

Ventura continued their strong play on the singles side where Koyanagi dominated his straight set win by scores of 6-1, 6-0. Karen, Guenter Newman and Evan Gazic were straight set winners in singles play at the No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 singles respectively. The Pirates did not drop a set until No. 5 and No. 6 where they brought home wins in three sets in each contest.

Ventura finishes the regular season and looks at a likely No. 3 seed for the state playoffs, but first up is the Western State Conference singles and doubles tournament on Friday Apr. 1 and Saturday Apr. 2.
