Pirate Tennis Closes Out Regular Season With Win

Corey Karen easily won in No. 2 singles, and won in No. 1 singles with Hiro Koyanagi as VC defeated Grossmont 7-2 to close out the regular season Tuesday.

The Pirates' men's tennis team closed out the regular season with a solid 7-2 win over Grossmont College Tuesday at the VC Tennis Center.  Ventura (10-3, 6-0) was led by a solid performance from Corey Karen as he defeated his opponent love and love in No. 2 singles.

Karen also won in No. 1 doubles with partner Hironori Koyanagi, who kept his undefeated season alive in No. 1 singles, as well, 6-2, 7-5.  Guenter Newman won in No. 4 singles while Victor Ribeiro prevailed in No. 6.  Newman and Michael Burr won in No. 2 doubles while Ribeiro and Leonardo Santos triumphed in No. 3 doubles.

The Pirates will break from team dual action this weekend to begin the Western State Conference Singles and Doubles Tournament Friday and Saturday at the VC Tennis Center.  Action will begin at 11:00 am.

VC also awaits its pairing in the CCCAA SoCal Regional Playoffs, which will begin on Tuesday April 7.
