WSC Champion Pirates Pad their Lead Against Pierce

On Tuesday, the Pirates' men's tennis team clinched the Western State Conference championship, on Thursday, they erased all doubts.  Ventura swept visiting Los Angeles Pierce College 9-0 at the VC Tennis Center in dominant fashion, not dropping a single set in the process.

Hironori Koyanagi remained undefeated in singles competition this season, winning his 10th straight match at No. 1, 6-1, 6-4.  Corey Karen moved to 8-2 on the year with a win at No. 2 singles while Guenter Newman moved up to win at No. 3, one and two.  Leonardo Santos prevailed in No. 4 singles and Victor Ribeiro and Florent Auteuil won at Nos. 5 and 6 singles, respectively.

The Pirates also swept doubles play with Koyanagi and Karen (No. 1), Newman and Ricardo Martin (No. 2), and Ribeiro and Santos (No. 3) all posting strong victories.

VC will attempt to run the table n the WSC on Tuesday March 24 with their conference finale at home against Bakersfield.
