After Ventura College had an eight-year run atop the Western State Conference men's tennis standings, Glendale moved the Pirates out in 2014.  VC took the first step in regaining their top spot Tuesday, defeating defending champion Glendale 7-2 in the Pirates' first WSC match of the season.

Corey Karen led VC with a love and two win in No. 2 singles, and he paired with Hironori Koyanagi to win in No. 1 doubles, 8-4.  Koyanagi was also victorious in No. 1 singles.  Victor Ribeiro prevailed in No. 6 singles, and teamed up with Leo Palesi to win No. 3 singles.  Michael Burr and Florent Auteuil were victorious in Nos. 4 and 5 singles, respectively.

Ventura (2-1, 1-0) will continue conference play on Thursday Feb. 26 at Los Angeles Pierce College.
