MEN'S TENNIS: The VC men's tennis team dropped their 2014 season opener in heartbreaking fashion Friday, losing 5-4 to Grossmont College at Camino real park in Ventura. The Pirates fell behind in doubles play, with Vitor Mendes and Matheus Montero winning in No. 1 doubles 9-7. The Griffins managed a split of the six singles matches, with four matches ending in super tiebreakers. Montero (No. 2), Victor Dos Santos (No. 3) and Dylan Foster (No. 6) all produced singles victories for VC (0-1).
The Pirates will open Western State Conference play at Glendale on Tuesday Feb. 25 before heading home on Thursday Feb. 27 against Los Angeles Pierce College. Both matches will begin at 2:00 pm.
