Bob E. Smith transitions to assistant coach in 2015 for the VC golf team after 10 years directing the program. He has had a highly decorated playing and teaching career. He played on the PGA Tour from 1968-1981 and was in the top-60 on the money list 10 times. Coach Smith went on to be an exempt player on the European Tour (1984-1990) and then on the Champions Tour (1994-1999). As an amateur, he won the prestigious titles of the Western Amateur Championship twice, Porter Cup twice, and the California State Amateur title.

Coach Smith has been a PGA of America Member for 38 years and during that time has received the award as Southern California PGA Teacher of the Year (Northern Chapter). He has also twice received the award as Southern California PGA Senior Player of the Year.
