Ventura sophomore AJ Ryland tied for second place with a 1-over 73 on Monday to help lead the Pirate golf team to a fourth place finish at the State Preview meet at Sandpiper Gold Course in Santa Barbara. The Pirates totaled a team score of 391 to finish six strokes off the winning pace.
Daniel Darwin and Hunter McCoy also had solid performances for Ventura, each carding a 6-over 78 to tie for 18th place out of 119 golfers competing. Logan Gonzalez carded an 80 for VC while Ian Chapital and Logan Cook scored an 82 and 91, respectively.
Orange Coast pulled out the team title with a team score of 385 followed by Reedley at 388. Bakersfield was third at 390, just ahead of the Pirates. Napa Valley was fifth with a team score of 394.
VC returns to Western State Conference play on Monday March 25 at Knollwood Gold Course in Glendale.
