Pirate Golfers Take Highly Contested Riverside Invite

The Pirate golf team won the highly-contested Riverside Invitational Monday at the par-72 Victoria Club. VC posted a team score of 390 to win by one stroke over runner-up Santa Barbara. A total of seven strokes separated the top five teams in the event. AJ Ryland led Ventura with an even par 72 to tie for medalist honors and Hunter McCoy turned in a 6-over 78.

On a day during which every stroke counted, Ventura had four scores under 80. Behind Ryland and McCoy, who tied for 18th overall among 88 competitors, Daniel Darwin and Ian Chapital tied for 24th overall, each with a 7-over 79. Logan Gonzalez carded an 82 for VC and Logan Cook came in with an 87.

Behind VC's 390 and SBCC's 391, Cuyamaca was third with a team score of 392 followed by Orange Coast (395), Reedley (397) and Mt. San Antonio (401). Glendale was seventh at 402 while Saddleback and Cypress tied for eighth at 403.

With last week's Western State Conference No. 2 postponed until April 8, the Pirates next will compete in the WSC No. 3 event hosted by Allan Hancock at the Santa Maria Country Club on Monday March 4.
