Pirate Golf Season Ends at SoCal Regionals

Ventura's top golfer AJ Ryland missed out on a trip to the state championships by three strokes as the Pirates finished sixth as a team at the SoCal Regionals Monday.

The VC golf season came to a close Monday at the 36-hole Southern California Regionals at Industry Hills Golf Course in the City of Industry. Ventura carded a team score of 386-399, 785 to finish sixth in the 10-team event wit the top four teams advancing to next week's CCCAA State Finals. AJ Ryland was the low man for the Pirates with a 75-79, 154 to finish in 19th place overall out of 67 competitors.

Saddleback won the event with a 366-375, 741 followed by College of the Desert (389-372, 761), Riverside (383-387, 770) and Cuyamaca (391-385, 776). Western State Conference foes Santa Barbara finished fifth, six strokes ahead of VC and Canyons was seventh, five strokes behind.

Ryland, an All-WSC selection this year, led the effort for Ventura once again, shooting a 4-over 75 in the morning before moving back to an 8-over 79 in the afternoon round. His final score of 154 was three shots off of qualifying for state championships as an individual.

Other Pirate golfers included Nathan Long (79-77, 156), Zack Garboski (78-80, 158), Martin Alvarez (78-82, 160), Elijah Delsi (76-84, 160) and Jonas Slattum (80-81, 161).
