VC Golf 4th at WSC Finals, Qualifies for SoCal's

 The Ventura College golf team did not have its best day Monday at Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo at the Western State Conference Championships. The Pirates shot a 401-398, 799 to finish fourth in the 36-hole event but still held off Glendale and Citrus to finish third in the final conference standings, qualifying the team for the SoCal Regionals on May 8. Jonas Slattum was the top Pirate on the day in a tie for 13th overall.

In the morning round, the Pirates posted a team score of 401, placing them fifth in the eight-team field. Santa Barbara claimed the low score with a 379 followed by Canyons at 282, Glendale at 391 and Bakersfield at 397.

All-WSC selection AJ Ryland led Ventura in the morning with a 4-over 75, placing  in a tie for fifth. Other Ventura scores included Slattum, Zack Garboski and Elijah Delsi with 10-over 81's and Martin Alvarez and Nicolai Cascione both with 83's.

The Pirates barely fared better in the afternoon on the par-71 course, carding a team score of 398. SBCC won the second round with a 375 followed by Glendale two shots back, Citrus at 395 and Canyons with a 396.

Slattum led VC in the afternoon with a 4-over 75, placing him in a tie for seventh. Garboski shot a 6-over 77 and Delsi hit an 9-over 80. Cascione and Martin each posted an 83 and Ryland shot 84.

Overall, Slattum placed in a tie for 13th with his combined score of 81-75, 156 and Garboski was not far behind with his 71-77, 158. Ryland shot a 75-84, 159 and Delsi totaled 81-80, 161. Alvarez (83-83, 166) and Cascione (83-83, 166) turned in identical scores for the 36-holes.

The Pirates next hit the links in the Southern California Regionals on Monday May 8. The 26-hole event will be held at the Industry Hills Golf Course in the City of Industry.
