Pirate Golf 11th of 16 at Riverside Invite

The VC golf team battled low temperatures and a cold rain Monday, carding a respectable team score of 406 at the Riverside City College Invitational at the Victoria Country Club. The Pirates tied for 11th among the 16 participating schools, including some of Southern California's best teams. Joshua Calderon was the low man for Ventura with a 7-over par 79.

College of the Desert claimed the top prize in the team competition with a 371 followed by Western State Conference rival Santa Barbara at 377. Saddleback was third, two shots behind the Vaqueros.

AJ Ryland was the second Pirate shooting an 80 while Zack Garboski recorded an 81. Nathan Long and Martin Alvarez each carded an 83 and Elijah Delsi had an 84.

The low score of the day was an even-par 72 posted by golfers from Desert and Santa Barbara. Calderon's score placed him in a tie for 33rd of the 82 golfers competing.

Ventura next takes to the links on Monday March 6 at the WSC No. 4 hosted by Allan Hancock College at Santa Maria Country Club.
