Pirate Golfers Show Improvement in Pt. Conception Open

After a tough opening day on Sunday, the Pirate golf team rebounded Monday at the season-opening, 36-hole Pt. Conception Open at La Purisma Golf Course in Lompoc. Ventura carded a team score of 412 in Sunday's opening round before improving to a 393 in Monday's final round. The combined score of 805 was good for eighth place in the team standings of the 13 teams who played 36 holes. Michael Ray led the Pirates with a two-day total of 153 (79-74).

On Sunday, VC struggled to a team score of 412, good for 10th place in the 14-team field. Ray and Mason Teron led the Pirates with a 7-over 79, followed by Nick Burns at 80.

Ventura improved by 19 strokes as a team Monday, carding a 393 as a team. Ray was low man once again at 74 (+2), followed by Teron (75, +3), and Burns (77, +5).

The Pirates will begin Western State Conference play on Monday Feb. 4 at Valencia Country Club in an event hosted by the College of the Canyons.
