Desert Winds Make Golf Event Difficult, VC Places Second

In difficult windy conditions in the High Desert, the Pirate golf team placed second at the Western State Conference event hosted by Antelope Valley College Monday. Ventura posted a team score of 383, three shots behind conference-leading Canyons at 380, and 10 strokes ahead of third-place Santa Barbara. Joey Herrera and Brandon Resnick both posted 3-over 75's, good for a tie for fourth overall on the Antelope Valley Country Club course.

Other Pirate scores included Connor Philpott at 76, Denis Kakimoto at 77, Kyle Dollison with 80 and Kevin Leblanc with an 81.

Canyons leads the conference standings with a dual record of 59-4 while the Pirates sit in second place with a mark of 53-10. Santa Barbara is third at 45-18. 

The conference will head to Cypress Ridge Golf Course in Arroyo Grande on Monday May 1 for the 36-hole WSC Championships.  That will also serve as the final two conference events of the season.  The top two teams in the overall conference standings, plus the next highest finisher in the championships will advance to the SoCal Regional Championships on May 8.
