Herrera Is Individual Medalist, VC Second at WSC-Bakersfield

For the second consecutive event, the Pirate golf team had the low man on the board. VC freshman Joey Herrera carded a 1-under par 70 Monday at the par-71 Stockdale Country Club in Bakersfield to earn individual medalist honors at the first Western State Conference match of the year.  His efforts led the Pirates to a second place finish as a team in the eight-team field with a combined score of 384. 

Canyons won the event with a score of 374, followed by VC at 384, Glendale (388), Santa Barbara (391) and Citrus (391).  Antelope Valley (458), Victor Valley (462) and Bakersfield (464) rounded out the team finishes.

After Herrera, Kevin Leblanc posted a score of 76 for Ventura, followed by Brandon Resnick (77), Denis Kakimoto (80), Connor Philpott (81) and Jonathan Ortiz (86).

Ventura will host the next WSC contest, Monday March 6 at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard. Tee times are slated to begin at 10:00 am.
