The Pirate golf team opened the 2017 season with a fifth place finish at the Pt. Conception Open at the par-72 La Purisma Golf Club in Lompoc. Ventura totaled a 787 (395-392) for the two-day event and Joey Herrera was the low man for VC with a combined score of 151 (79-72), good for a seventh place tie individually. Other Pirate scorers included Denis Kakimoto, 156 (77-79), Brandon Resnick,158 (80-78), Connor Philpott, 161 (77-84), Adam Franc 166 (82-84), and Jonathan Ortiz, 166 (87-79). Mt. San Jacinto won the team event with a score of 762 followed by Cypress (764), then Santa Barbara (767), and Palomar and VC (787).
The Pirates begin Western State Conference play on Monday Feb. 6 at Valencia Country Club in an event hosted by College of the Canyons.
