The Ventura College men's golf team played better on the second day of the two-day Santa Barbara Invitational to place 10th overall of the 14 competing teams Sunday and Monday. VC was in 11th place following Sunday's rain and wind soaked round at Marshallia Ranch Golf Course, but improved 20 shots on Monday at La Purisma Golf Course to finish fifth for the day and 10th for the tournament.
Remy Smaby (79-74, 153) and Matthew Thomas (76-77, 153) finished low for the Pirates, both carding a combined 153 for the two days. Alex Hood (78-82, 160) followed, then Greg Brown (87-79, 166), Emil Ozeke (90-78, 168) and Brian Wipf (90-85, 175).
The Pirates posted a team score of 410-390, 800 to come in 10th. Canyons (381-373, 754) won the tournament followed by Santa Barbara (387-376, 763) and Monterey Peninsula (397-371, 768).
Ventura is the next host for the weekly Western State Conference event, playing at River Ridge Golf Course on Monday March 9. Tee times are set to begin at 11:00 am.
