GOLF: The Ventura College golf team placed third of eight teams at the Western State Conference event hosted by Allan Hancock College at the par-72 course at Santa Maria Country Club Monday. Conference front-runner Canyons placed first with a team score of 356, followed by Santa Barbara at 378 and the Pirates at 389. Erik Thorbecke paced the VC team with a 1-over 73, followed by Greg Brown (74), Remy Smaby (77), Stephan Moffatt (80) and Greg Robarge (81).
The Pirates remain in third place in the conference standings as they head to Citrus College's event on Monday April 7 at Glendora Country Club.
