Pirate Golf Off to Strong Start

GOLF:  The Ventura College golf team got the 2014 season off to a strong start with a second place finish at the Bakersfield Invitational Monday and Tuesday. Leading after day ne of the eight-team affair, the Pirates could not post a consistent team score, allowing Reedley to slip into the top spot. VC shot 378-397, 775, nine strokes behind the Tigers, 381-385, 766. Host Bakersfield finished third (395-404, 799). Sophomore Aaron Lee led the Pirates with a two-day combined score of 72-79, 151, followed by freshman Stephan Moffatt (76-77, 153).

Day one of the 2014 opener was held at Seven Oaks Country Club, followed by Tuesday's play at Rio Bravo Country Club.

The Pirates will travel to Victorville for Victor Valley College's Pnoomonia Invitational on Monday Feb. 3. Play is slated to begin at 10:00 am at Spring Valley Lake Country Club.
