VC Drops Heartbreaker at Cuesta in Final Seconds

The VC men's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker Wednesday, falling 71-70 at Cuesta on a Cougar 3-point shot with six seconds remaining. Anthony Garza led the charge for Ventura (18-6, 6-2) with 19 points and eight rebounds while Marcus Watson posted a double-double of 10 points and 10 boards to go along with six assists. Daniel Crocker totaled 15 points and Adrian McIntyre was the fourth Pirate in double-figures with 13.

Cuesta's strong play put VC down 38-31 at halftime.

After intermission, however, the Pirates came alive, going on a 21-4 run to open the period, taking a 52-42 advantage. The game was tied at 63 late before Ventura held a 70-68 lead in the final minute.Unfortunately, the COugars were able to make a play, hitting a 3-pointer with six seconds remaining to secure the upset win.

Ventura will look to rebound on Saturday Feb. 4 at Moorpark. Tip-off against the Raiders is slated for 3:00 pm at Raider Pavilion.
