Ventura Routs Moorpark in Make-Up Date

The VC men's basketball team continued its march through the Western State Conference with a 92-50 blow-out win over visiting Moorpark Monday in a game originally scheduled for Jan. 15. Shulton Tobin had a 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocked shots to lead the way while Adrian McIntyre netted 12 points and six boards. Ventura (18-2, 6-0) scored 92 points with only two players in double-figures as 11 different players found the scoring column in the game.

After the game was tied 2-2 early, the Pirates went on a 12-3 run over the next four minutes to take control of the game. Aaron Dawoodjee assisted a three by Anthony McIntyre, then Tobin raced down the floor for a dunk on the next possession. After a Raider three, Anthony Garza connected on a mid-range jumper  and Adrian Mc. went coast-to coast for a score. Dawoodjee connected for an old-fashioned 3-point play with 13:59 remaining in the first half for the 14-5 Pirate advantage.

After a two-minute scoring drought by both teams with the score 26-13, VC caught fire again with 6:18 on the clock, beginning with a 3-pointer by Adrian Mc. from Donavan Willaims' dime. Tobin then made a shot from beyond the arc, Elijah McCloud hit two free throws, and Garza scored inside with an assist by Tobin to stretch the margin to 36-13 at the 2:50 mark. The Pirates led the Raiders 40-17 at halftime.

Ventura kept their foot on the gas in the final period opening with an 11-4 run over the first five minutes. Adrian Mc. converted Garza's assist for two, then Garza scored with a dunk from a pass by Tobin. Adrian Mc. drained a three and Tobin went coast-to-coast for two before Anthony Mc. scored on a drive for a 51-21 advantage. The lead reached 40 points, 67-27, on Jelani Bell's three midway through the half and Kordell Gordon followed with a dunk assisted by Bell. Max Kadlec scored a pair of 3-pointers late as Ventura cruised in with the 92-50 victory.

Michael Noulowe recorded nine points with six rebounds and three assists in the game and Anthony Mc. also netted nine. Garza finished with eight points, seven boards and three steals while Gordon also had eight points while grabbing four caroms. Bell finished with seven points and three dimes and Dawoodjee and Kadlec each scored six.

The Pirates' game at Allan Hancock College scheduled for Wednesday Feb. 2 has been postponed, and will now tentatively be played on Friday Feb. 25.  VC next takes the court on Saturday Feb. 5 against Los Angeles Pierce College at 5:00 pm.
