Men's Basketball Runs Away From Victor Valley

The VC men's basketball team posted its second straight runaway victory on Friday, defeating Victor Valley 90-50 on the second day of the We Play Hard Tournament at the Athletic Event Center. Anthony McIntyre led the balanced team effort with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists while Adrian McIntyre and Anthony Garza chipped in 13 and 11 points, respectively. Brandt Skolnick came off the bench for nine points on 3-5 shooting from three.

Ventura (2-0) took the early advantage on a 3-point play by Adrian and a 3-pointer by Anthony Garza with an assist from Jelani Bell. VC led 16-10 with 12 minutes remaining in the half when Anthony hit back-to-back 3-pointers, each with help from Bell, and Bell turned around to hit his own triple off a dime from Anthony for a 25-10 Ventura lead. Adrian recorded a steal to a lay-up for a 33-12 Pirate advantage at the 5:54 mark and he converted a 3-pointer with help from Darius Butler to make it 41-17 with 2:42 on the clock. VC led the Rams 48-20 at halftime.

Ventura continued its dominance in the final 20 minutes of the game. The Pirates went on a 7-2 run to open the second half, and Skolnick hit a 3-pointer off of Butler's pass for a 68-27 lead midway through the period. Max Kadlec also got into the act off the bench, grabbing a steal and beginning a fast break that finished on a pass from Michael Noulowe to Kordell Gordon for an 83-39 advantage with 4:45 left in the game. Ventura coasted to the 90-50 win.

Garza finished the game with 11 points on 5-6 shooting from the floor, all in the first half, and Kadlec came in with eight points. Donavan Williams also scored eight points on 3-4 shooting, including 2-3 from beyond the 3-point arc, and grabbed five rebounds. Adrian and Bell each dropped three dimes and Adrian also pulled in five steals. Butler and Aaron Dawoodjee each recorded three thefts.

The Pirates conclude the We Play Hard Tournament on Saturday Nov. 6 with a 2:00 pm date with Antelope Valley.
