Trio of Pirates Commit to Scholarship Offers

Three players from the Ventura College men's basketball team have committed to sign scholarship offers and move on to the four-year level. Dayshone Henry, Tone Patton and Timothy Turner will all be transferring to Concordia University Irvine, Cal State University East Bay and Angelo State University (TX), respectively, in the fall. The trio helped lead the Pirates to its fifth straight Western State Conference North Division title in 2020, posting a 21-8 overall record.

Henry, a graduate of Fremont High School in Los Angeles, was named first team All-WSC and earned honorable mention All-State honors. He led the Pirates averaging 18.8 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. The sophomore shot 51.1 percent from the floor on the season, He will transfer to Concordia University in Irvine, an NCAA Division II school. The Eagles were 20-12 last season, 14-8 in the PacWest Conference.

Patton, the Defensive Player of the Year in the WSC North, capped a two-year career at VC averaging 9.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per game in 2019-20. The Thornwood High School (Chicago, IL) product hit over 55 percent of his field goal attempts this year. He also earned first-team all-conference honors as a freshman. He will be attending Cal State University East Bay in the fall. The NCAA Division II school in Hayward was 17-13 in 2019-20, 12-10 in the California Collegiate Athletic Conference. 

Turner was named the Most Outstanding Player in the WSC North in 2020, also garnering first team All-State accolades. He is an alumnus of Harlan High School in Chicago, IL, and has been a two-year standout for the Pirates. He scored 14.2 points per game this season, handing out 4.5 assists per outing. He shot nearly 51 percent from the floor, including a 37.2 percent clip from behind the 3-point arc. He also made nearly 73 percent of his free throw attempts. He will be moving on to NCAA Division II Angelo State University, Located in San Angelo, TX, the Rams were 20-8 in 2019-20, posting a 15-7 mark in the Lone Star Conference.
