Men's Basketball Headed for the Playoffs

On the strength of their fifth straight Western State Conference North Division title, the Pirates' men's basketball team is again headed to the post-season. VC (21-7) had received the No. 9 seed in the CCCAA Southern California Regionals and will travel to play No. 8 Cerritos (19-9) on Friday Feb. 28 at 7:00 pm. The Pirates and Falcons met on November 14 of this season with the Falcons prevailing 70-43 at the Irvine Valley Tournament. 

The Pirates finished in first place in the WSC North, posting the first undefeated conference mark since 2008. VC won the conference by a three game margin over second place. They have won 12 straight games and 18 of their last 21 contests.

Cerritos, meanwhile, tied with LA Southwest for the top spot in the South Coast Conference South Division after dropping a de-facto championship game to the Cougars last Friday. The Falcons posted a conference record of 8-2 and received the SCC's top-billing in the post-season. Cerritos also comes into the playoffs on a roll, winning 14 of their last 16 games.

The Pirates and Falcons met on November 14 of this season with the Falcons prevailing 70-43 at the Irvine Valley Tournament. 

Barring a major upset, the winner of Friday's contest will face No. 1 Santiago Canyon (26-2) in the regional finals on Saturday March 7. The Hawks will play either No. 16 West Los Angeles (20-8) or No. 17 Mt. San Jacinto (15-13) on Saturday Feb. 29.
