Men's Basketball Holds Off Lassen For Victory

The VC men's basketball team held off Lassen College 92-88 Friday afternoon in the consolation semifinal of the Jonathan Wallace Memorial Tournament at Ohlone College in Fremont. Jacob Alonzo hit four 3-pointers and was a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line to lead Ventura (3-2) with 21 points. Isiah Reyes had 15 points, 13 of which came in the second half.

The Pirates built a 50-32 advantage at halftime With Alonzo leading the way with 11 points while John Williams totaled eight.

The Tigers staged a comeback attempt in the final period, outscoring Ventura 56-42, but the Pirates were able to make the big first half lead hold up.

Darrell Handy-Johnson netted 13 for VC in the win while his twin brother Terrell Handy-Johnson had 10 points. 

Ventura will play for the tournament's consolation championship on Saturday Nov. 11 at 11:00 am against Modesto.
