The drive home Sunday was a little easier.  The Ventura College men's basketball team closed the Jonathan Wallace Memorial Tournament in Fremont with a 82-59 win over the Contra Costa Comets Sunday afternoon. Trevor LaCount led VC (3-3) with 18 points while Vida Faniel and Cordel Hankerson each added 12. Thomas Frank was the fourth Pirate in double-figures with 11 points while Isiah Reyes had nine points in the game, all in the second half.

With the game tied at 6-6 with 17:53 left in the first half, Ventura went on a 13-0 run over the next five minutes to take control. Faniel and Hankerson led the run with five of the six buckets.  The Pirates used steady progress for the remainder of the half, taking a 42-20 advantage into intermission.

VC next travels to Orange County to play in the Irvine Valley Classic Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 17-19.  The Pirates open against the host Irvine Valley Lasers on Thursday at 6:00 pm.
