Men's Basketball Falls Late to Cañada

The Pirates' men's basketball team held a lead midway through the second half, but could not hold off the hard-charging Cañada Colts Saturday, falling 74-72 on day two of the Jonathan Wallace Memorial Tournament at Ohlone College in Fremont.  Cordel Hankerson had a team-high 23 points, including six 3-pointers, in the loss.

Ventura (2-3) led 37-32 at halftime, and extended the advantage to 60-47 on Hankerson's trey with 9:41 left to play.  The Colts came back, taking the lead with a 3-pointer in the final minute of play.

Trevor LaCount had  14 points for VC while Thomas Frank and Vida Faniel added nine and eight points, respectively. Eddie Cowan contributed seven points to the Pirates' cause.

Ventura will finish up the visit to the Bay Area on Sunday Nov. 13 with a matinee affair with Contra Costa at 1:00 pm.
