Ventura College men's basketball picked up an 89-79 win over Los Angeles Valley College in Van Nuys Tuesday night. The Pirates received stellar offensive contributions from several players, but Elijah Brown stood out with 21 points in the game. Steven Bush added nine points as he hit from 3-point range three times in the first half.

The Pirates (4-3) came out with an outstanding first 20 minutes of basketball. They were firing on all cylinders, pouring in 51 points in the first half to take a 51-27 advantage going into halftime. Bush fronted the scoring with his long range accuracy, but Jacob Alonzo and Brown each put up nine points in the first half. Dwayne Murrill was just behind those three as he netted eight points in the first half. Ventura went to the locker room with a seemingly comfortable advantage, but they knew better as LA Valley was likely to come out and try to battle back in the game.

VC was able to put home 38 points in the second half, but the Monarchs came out aggressive and accurate and were able to put a furious rush on the Pirates. Ventura though was not undone by the Monarchs attempted rally and was able keep LA Valley at bay during the second half. Brown poured in 12 more points in the second half, while Trevor LaCount got into the mix with eight points of his own.

In total six different Pirates were able to scored eight points or more. Brown topped the team, but Bush, Alonzo, Murrill, Cordel Hankerson and LaCount each reached this plateau.

Ventura will be off until Friday Dec. 4 when they will start off the Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament at Antelope Valley College. They will take on East Los Angeles on Friday Dec. 4 then will play again on Saturday Dec. 5 and Sunday Dec. 6 to finish up the tournament.
