MEN'S BASKETBALL: In the opening round of the Gregg Anderson Memorial Tournament, the Pirates' men's basketball team put together a solid effort in defeating Barstow 101-69 at Antelope Valley College in Lancaster Friday evening. Rodney Bryant netted a season-high 21 points to lead VC (5-5), including hitting five 3-pointers while Jon McMurry was on fire, hitting six of seven triples for 18 points. Jalen Young netted 12 points with seven assists and Vondel Faniel also tallied a dozen points with 11 rebounds.
Ventura used a 16-1 run midway through the first half to turn a 15-15 tie into a 31-16 advantage. The Pirates took a 42-23 advantage into halftime, then lit up the scoreboard for 59 points in the final 20 minutes.
VC advances to the tournament semifinal Saturday Dec. 7 at 7:00 pm against conference foe College of the Canyons. They will play San Bernardino Valley or Los Angeles Pierce on Sunday Dec. 8.
