Ryan Clanton enters his fourth season as an assistant coach at Ventura College, bringing impressive credentials as a player and young coach. He has helped direct one of the state's best offensive lines for the past three seasons, including record-setting seasons at VC in 2015 and 2016. A year ago, VC's offense set records for total offense, passing yards and passing touchdowns, while in 2015, VC set records for scoring, total offense, plays from scrimmage, touchdown passes and first downs. The offensive line's efforts were highlighted in 2015 by Chris Beeson's 1,011 rushing yards, the program's 11th 1,000-yard rusher since 1965, and by Tyson Rising signing with Arizona State University of the Pac 12 Conference. Clanton has been promoted to offensive coordinator for the 2017 season.
Clanton is a product of Bakersfield Christian High School, where he helped lead coach Doug Barnett's team to the Valley Championship as a senior. He attended City College of San Francisco where he played for the Rams in 2008 and 2009, earning Junior College All-American honors on the offensive line for head coach George Rush.
Clanton accepted a full-ride scholarship to the University of Oregon, where he played left tackle, left guard and right guard on the Duck's offensive line for coach Chip Kelly. He spent three seasons in Eugene, including a redshirt year in 2010, and during that time the Ducks played in the 2011 BCS National Championship, won the 2012 Rose Bowl and won the 2013 Fiesta Bowl. Clanton was a team captain his senior season and was invited to NFL training camps, working with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Green Bay Packers.
Clanton spent the 2013 season coaching the offensive and defensive lines at his alma mater Bakersfield Christian, leading the Eagles to Southern Section and CIF State Championships before joining Ventura College.
