Steve Staniland enters his 10th season in his second stint with the Pirates as working with character development while assisting wit hthe offensive line. He also spent 10 years on the VC sidelines from 1995-2005.  A three-sport athlete at Santa Clara High School in the 1970's, He signed with the Oakland A's out of high school and finished his baseball career in the St. Louis Cardinals organization.

Coach Staniland returned home after an arm injury ended his baseball career and enrolled at Ventura College.  He played two seasons of football for the Pirates in 1978 and 1979, earning the Team MVP, first-team All-Western State Conference honors.  he was also named the co-Offensive Player of the Year Award in the WSC and was named All-State and All-American.  He was a mid-year transfer to Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Tex. where he started for two seasons at left tackle for the "Pony Express" teams featuring running backs Eric Dickerson and Craig James. Staniland was inducted into the Ventura County Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

Coach Staniland has been married for 44 years with his wife Pam and they have three sons, Jeff, Jon, and James, and three beautiful grandchildren, Talan, Kailee, and Klay.
