Matt Koman enters his fourth season on the Ventura College coaching staff, his first as the team's Strength and Conditioning & Speed and Performance Coordinator.  He spent 2012 as an assistant Strength and Conditioning/Speed and Performance Coach under Defensive Coordinator Tyson Butler whom he still consults with about the program. In 2013 and 2014, Koman was the full time Speed and Performance Coach and throughout his young career has assisted with Wide Receivers and Quarterbacks.

Koman set multiple passing records as a quarterback for his alma mater William Mason High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. Koman earned all conference, district, and city honors. He played in the Ohio North-South All Star Game in 2007 which featured five current NFL players. He was recruited by Vanderbilt, Louisville, Cincinnati, Ohio State, and several smaller schools entering his senior year but was sidelined against National Powerhouse Colerain after taking a nerve damaging hit and was unable to move the left side of his body. He was air lifted off the University of Miami (OH) field and was told he should not play the rest of his senior year.

Fearful that his dream of playing college football was over, Koman made a courageous comeback in week-6 of his senior year and managed to take his team from 1-4 to 5-5 and win the conference championship. After high school Koman accepted his only scholarship offer to the University of Charleston (WV-D2) and got some experience playing quarterback and wide receiver. He then transferred to Northern Kentucky University (D1) and walked on to the basketball team for a season before finding his way back to football at Feather River College in Quincy, CA. He was Coach Steve Mooshagian's starting quarterback before suffering another horrific injury. He broke his tibia and fibula and had a severe ankle dislocation.

For the second time Koman was told he shouldn't return to contact sports, and again made an unlikely comeback. With nine screws and a plate in his leg, he returned to play his last season at Ventura College in 2011 for Mooshagian where he started every game and made the transition from quarterback to wide receiver mid-season. Koman made the all-conference team as a wide receiver and was an integral part of the Pirates 7-4 Beach Bowl winning season.

Coach Koman loves being around the program and providing a positive influence on the young athletes. He knows that opportunities come and go and constantly preaches "cherish every moment you get together."

Koman is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is also the Strength & Conditioning/ Speed & Performance Coordinator for Santa Paula High School. He has trained and consulted with several high schools and hundreds of athletes around the Ventura County area. Koman also works with KINESIO2GO, a physical therapy and athletic training company based out of Thousand Oaks. Additionally he is a business advisor for Advocare.

Koman completed his AA degree at Ventura College in 2012 and is set to graduate with a B.S degree from the University of Phoenix in 2014.
