Ron Jenkins enters his sixth year as an assistant coach at Ventura College in 2019, this season working as a character and player development coach.  He also assisted with running backs in 2016 and the wide receivers from 2013-2015. He re-joins Pirate Head Football Coach Steve Mooshagian, who coached him at Fresno State in 1986-87. Jenkins began his coaching career in 1987-88 as a graduate assistant/wide receiver at Fresno State. Jenkins then went on to coach at Artesia High School in Artesia, California.

Jenkins, a Los Angeles native, attended Manual Arts High School, where he started his football career by playing both quarterback and wide receiver until a shoulder injury forced him to only play receiver, a position he adjusted to well. Ron was recruited and offered scholarships to play college football by Oregon State, Memphis State, and UCLA, but chose Fresno State because Coach Mooshagian, who recruited him, was honest and promised to be there for him as an athlete and person, which proved true.

While playing for Fresno State, Jenkins earned first team All-PCAA honors in 1987, set a single game reception record catching 16 passes, was named Honorable mention All-American and finished his senior year fourth in the nation in receptions. He was also voted most outstanding Bulldog receiver.

For the past 20-plus years Jenkins has been employed by the State Department of Corrections serving as a mentor to both youth and adults. In early 2000, Jenkins was publicly recognized for his role in saving a young girl's life. As her counselor, he was instrumental in guiding her towards success. He witnessed her progress through the system making her way from Fresno County Juvenile Hall to becoming a successful entrepreneur, author, and attorney. She followed in Jenkins foot step by attending Fresno State and graduated at the top of her class. She continued her education by earning two graduate degrees from UCLA business and law school.

When Jenkins is not working or coaching he spends his time mentoring youth in Los Angeles, trying to pay forward the opportunities he received and life lessons learned through athletics and having positive role models. Jenkins credits Coach Mooshagian for helping him break the cycle of violence in his family that took the lives of four of his brothers. Jenkins is inspired by the Ventura College coaching staff lead by Coach Mooshagian. He believes they are a solid group that provides stability for the student athletes in the program, teaching both football and life. Jenkins praises the coaching staff for their efforts in working with the multitude of situations that come with community college student athletes. Jenkins believes one has to be committed to the Program and the Pride of the Institution.

Jenkins earned his B.A Degree in Social Work Education from Fresno State in 1988. Jenkins resides in Oxnard and has a 23-year old son.
