LAS VEGAS — A former Ventura College alumnus had a huge play during Super Bowl LVIII Sunday.
Jaylen Watson '18, a former VC All-American defensive back who now plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, came up with one of the biggest plays in the Super Bowl, recovering a San Francisco 49ers fumble that led to a go-ahead score for Kansas City late in the third quarter.
The ball bounced off the heel of 49ers cornerback Darrell Luter Jr., prompting 49ers offensive lineman Ray-Ray McCloud III to dive for the ball to no avail. Once McCloud missed the ball and Watson saw the opportunity, he and two 49ers players dove for the ball with Watson recovering.
The turnover led to a 16-yard touchdown pass from Patcirick Mahomes to Marquez Valdes-Scantling giving the Chiefs a 13-10 advantage with 2:28 remaining in the quarter.
Kansas City went on to defeat San Francisco 25-22 in overtime for the Chiefs' second consecutive Super Bowl championship with Watson.
