Vaughn, Arroyo Named All-American, VC in Top-10

A pair of record-breaking performances from the 2019 season earned wide receiver Terrell Vaughn and kicker Alberto Arroyo All-American honors, as voted upon by the California Community College Football Coaches Association last month. They were joined by three other Pirates on the CCCFCA Region III All-State list. The Pirates, meanwhile, were voted 10th in the final state poll released by the JC Athletic Bureau and the CCCFCA.

Vaughn, a freshman wide receiver from Oxnard, shattered the Pirates' single-season receiving record with 92 catches on the year. (The old mark was 70 set by Kendric Mallory in 2017) He had 988 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns on the season, which is second all-time (Charles Dillon, 2005, 13 TD's).

Arroyo, also a freshman, is a Carpinteria High School product. He set single-season marks for kick scoring with 115 points (Cooper Garcia, 2017, 104 points) and field goals made at 21 (Jake Lanski, 2015, 18 FG). He is also third on the single-season overall scoring record books.

Joining Vaughn and Arroyo on the CCCFCA Region III first team All-State offense were offensive lineman Will Bonkavich and utility back Juan Gaytan. Cornerback Wes Anusiem was Ventura's lone representative on the CCCFCA Region III first team All-State defensive team.

The Pirates, who captured a share of the SCFA Northern Conference for the sixth time in the last eight years, were voted No. 10 in the state in the final coaches' association poll.

"Two All-Americans, five All-State selections and a Top-10 finish," said head coach Steve Mooshagian. "Not bad for a young team. The future is bright!"
