Carlson, Lemonaira Share Northern Conference Defensive Honors

The Southern California Football Association's Northern Conference Players of the Week include not one, but two Pirate defensive players for the final week of the regular season. The performances by outside linebacker Trennan Carlson and defensive end Jesse Lemonaire stood out so much that the SCFA decided to award both the Defensive PoW honors for VC's 44-34 win over Cerritos Saturday.

Carlson, a freshman who prepped at Mission Viejo High School, had six tackles in the game, including three quarterback sacks.  He also had a forced fumble as the Pirates defeated the Falcons to secure their second straight undefeated Northern Conference season and their fourth consecutive conference title.

Lemonaire, meanwhile, earned his second SCFA award in the past three weeks, racking up nine tackles and 2.5 sacks in the Pirate victory. The sophomore from Hialeah, Fla. also forced a fumble, recorded two quarterback hurries and blocked an extra point that VC ran back for two points.

The Pirates received the No. 3 seed in the SCFA playoffs and will travel to Riverside on Saturday for the Southern California Bowl.  A victory would put them in the Southern California championship game on Nov. 25.
