Pirate Football Receives No. 3 Seed in SCFA Playoffs

Fresh off its second consecutive sweep through the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference, the Ventura College football team has received the No. 3 seed in the SCFA Playoffs. The Pirates (8-2) will travel to No. 2 Riverside (9-1) on Saturday Nov. 18 for a 6:00 pm kickoff against the Tigers in the Southern California Bowl. No. 1 Fullerton (10-0) will host No. 4 Saddleback (8-2) in the other SCFA semifinal. The winners will face off in the SCFA Chamipionship with sights on trip to the state title game at Hughes Stadium in Sacramento on Dec. 9.

The Pirates and Tigers crossed paths earlier in the season, with Riverside holding off a late VC comeback 42-34 on Sept. 23 in Riverside.  The Pirates have won six straight games since that Saturday, including a victory over No. 4 Saddleback the following week, while Riverside won five more games before falling Saturday to Mt. San Antonio 24-17.

This will be the Pirates' second straight trip to the SCFA playoffs, and their fourth in the past six years. VC also played in the Southern California championship game in 1999 and in 1935.  It is also Ventura's seventh straight bowl appearance and their ninth in the past 11 seasons.
