  • VC Football Transfers Up to 30 From 2017 Conference Champs
    August 01, 2018
    Ventura College football and head coach Steve Mooshagian are proud to update that 30 Pirates from the 2017 4-peat Northern Conference champions have inked scholarships or committed to play at four-year schools in the fall. In the Pirates' class of 2017, 14 transfers will play football at the NCAA Division I level, with eight playing in the Football Bowl Series with six in the Football Championship series. 11 former Pirates will play at the NCAA Division II level while three will play at NAIA schools.

  • Pirate Football Signees Up to 13 for 2017-18

    The Ventura College football team is proud to announce that it now has signed 13 student athletes form the 2017 3-Peat Northern Conference championship team to four-year commitments. Seven have signed during the late signing period, joining six who were mid-year transfers. Head coach Steve Mooshagian anticipates many more signings throughout the spring and summer.
  • Pirate Football Tops SCFA Academic Awards
    February 27, 2018
    For the second year in a row, and for the third time in the past four years, the Pirate football team has topped the Southern California Football Association's Scholar-Athlete team. VC has placed 18 players on the honor roll, led by offensive lineman Gavin Dement with a 3.82 Grade Point Average and defensive back Steven Nolasco at 3.53. Both of these honorees have also been nominated for Academic All-State. The Pirates achieved a 3.07 GPA as a team in the fall and posted an 8-3 record, capturing the Northern Conference for a fourth straight year.
  • VC Football Inks Four on National Signing Day, More To Come
    February 07, 2018
    The Ventura College football team had four players sign scholarship letters on National Signing Day in a small ceremony at the Athletic Event Center Wednesday morning. Head coach Steve Mooshagian expects more Pirates to sign in the coming days as the signing period moves through its course. Mooshagian also updated VC's mid-year transfers up to six, bringing the 3-Peat Northern Conference champions' transfer total to 10 for the year at this early stage.
  • Three Pirates Named All-American, Six Others All-State
    January 03, 2018
    Pirate football offensive lineman Trevor Elbert, kicker Cooper Garcia and defensive back Jaylon Watson were named All-Americans by the JC Athletic Bureau in voting by coaches around the state last month. Additionally, quarterback Jake Constantine, wide receiver Kendric Mallory, offensive lineman Jacob Gamble, running back Thomas Duckett, defensive end Jesse Lemonaire and kick-off returner Savion Simms were all voted first team All-California for the Southern California Region III.
  • VC Football Announces Five Early Signees
    December 23, 2017
    Ventura Colllege football head coach Steve Moosagian is pleased to announce that five members of VC's 4-peat Northern Conference champion football team have signed scholarship offers during the early signing period this week. Four have signed with NCAA Division schools while another signed with an NCAA Division II program. These mid year transfers will be eligible to participate in spring practice with their new teams in preparation for the 2018 season next fall.  The Pirates anticipate many more signings from the 2017 team in the coming months.
  • Lemonaire, Coach Mooshagian Lead Pirates in Conference Honors
    December 12, 2017
    Sophomore defensive end Jesse Lemonaire was named the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Year, and head coach Steve Mooshagian was named the Coach of the Year, leading a score of Pirates honored by the Northern Conference in post-season awards. Lemonaire, the Hialeah, Fla. product, was a dominant force for the VC defense with 78 tackles, including 18.5 stops behind the line of scrimmage, and 8.5 quarterback sacks this year while Mooshagian mentored the Pirates to their fourth straight conference title.
  • VC Mourns the Loss of Football Alumnus Brenden Daley '10
    November 23, 2017
    It is with sadness that we learned late yesterday that VC alumnus Brenden Daley '10 has passed away. After graduating from Moorpark High School, Brenden was a member of the VC Football program in 2009 and 2010. Upon graduation from VC, he transferred to the University of Hawaii and played professionally for several seasons, including a stint with the Atlanta Falcons. He also appeared on The School of Hard Knocks television series.  In the summer of 2016, he returned to Ventura College to assist the football program and was one of our original student success coaches in the VC Pirates Cove. 
  • VC Can't Find Breakthrough in SCFA Playoffs
    November 18, 2017
    The Pirate football team got off to a great start in Saturday's Southern California Football Association semifinal at Riverside. They forced a 3-and-out on the opening possession, had a strong opening drive, and forced the Tigers into two turnovers. Unfortunately, third-seeded VC (8-3) scored field goals instead of touchdowns and No. 2 Riverside took advantage in posting a 49-33 playoff victory.
  • Carlson, Lemonaira Share Northern Conference Defensive Honors
    November 15, 2017
    The Southern California Football Association's Northern Conference Players of the Week include not one, but two Pirate defensive players for the final week of the regular season. The performances by outside linebacker Trennan Carlson and defensive end jesse Lemonaire stood out so much that the SCFA decided to award both the Defensiove PoW honors for VC's 44-34 win over Cerritos Saturday.
  • Pirate Football Receives No. 3 Seed in SCFA Playoffs
    November 12, 2017
    Fresh off its second consecutive sweep through the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference, the Ventura College football team has received the No. 3 seed in the SCFA Playoffs. The Pirates (8-2) will travel to No. 2 Riverside (9-1) on Saturday Nov. 18 for a 6:00 pm kickoff against the Tigers in the Southern California Bowl. No. 1 Fullerton (10-0) will host No. 4 Saddleback (8-2) in the other SCFA semifinal.
  • VC Football Completes Northern Sweep, Readies For Playoffs
    November 11, 2017
    The Ventura College football team completed its second straight undefeated Northern Conference schedule, defeating Cerritos 44-34 Saturday night at the VC Sportsplex. Quarterback Jake Constantine threw four touchdown passes, two to Sam Flowers, and Gil Scott Jackson accounted for 118 yards from scrimmage. Meanwhile the Pirate defense sacked the Falcons' eight times, including three by Trennan Carlson and 2.5 by Jesse Lemonaire.
  • Two Pirates Named Player of the Week
    November 08, 2017
    Two members of the Pirate football team have earned accolades from the Southern California Football Association for their play in week 10 against Bakersfield. Quarterback Jake Constantine has been named the SCFA Northern Conference Offensive Player of the Week while kicker Cooper Garcia has been named the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week honors.  Both were key performers in the Pirates' 48-38 victory over the Renegades, clinching at least a share of VC's fourth straight Northern Conference title.
  • Pirates secure 4-Peat With Victory Over Bakersfield
    November 04, 2017
    The stage was set. With the Pirates ahead 41-31 with just inside three minutes remaining, a VC field goal would force Bakersfield to score two touchdowns to complete a miraculous comeback. Ventura would be close to clinching the game and their fourth straight SCFA Northern Conference title. But close was not good enough. As Cooper Garcia prepared for his 44-yard field goal, Ventura head coach Steve Mooshagian had something else in mind.
  • Jesse Lemonaire Earns SCFA Northern Conference Honor
    November 01, 2017
    Pirate defensive end Jesse Lemonaire has been named the Soutern California Football Association Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Week.  In the 50th edition of the Citrus Cup game at Moorpark Saturday, Jesse was a dominant force on defense. The sophomore from Miami Hialeah High School had a game-high eight tackles, including three quarterback sacks. He also recorded two quarterback hurries and a blocked extra point.  If that was not enough, Lemonaire had a 28-yard run on a fourth down fake punt on a drive that resulted in a Pirate touchdown.
  • Pirates Claim Citrus Cup For Record 10th Straight Year
    October 28, 2017
    The 50th edition of the Citrus Cup game between VC and Moorpark had just about everything. There were fake punts, onside kicks, turnovers and big plays. But in the end, it was Pirate head coach Steve Mooshagian doused with ice water as Ventura retained the Cup for a series record-tying 10th straight year with a 49-27 victory at Moorpark Saturday night. Quarterback Jake Constantine passed for 279 yards and four touchdowns, Thomas Duckett rushed for 85 yards and a score and Jesse Lemonaire recorded three quarterback sacks to lead the Pirates (6-2, 3-0) to victory.
  • Pirates Dominate Corsairs in 55-0 Shutout Victory
    October 21, 2017
    On the strength of a dominating defensive effort, and an effecient and balanced offense, the Pirate football team shutout Santa Monica 55-0 on the road Saturday afternoon. VC's defense held the Corsairs to 83 total yards of offense in the game while Ventura quarterbacks Jake Constantine and Ricky Town each totaled 148 passing yards with two and three touchdowns, respectively. Thomas Duckett rushed for a team-high 79 yards in the win for the Pirates (5-2, 2-0).
  • Constantine, Simms Earn Recognition From SCFA
    October 17, 2017
    Quarterback Jake Constantine and wide receiver/kick returner Savion Simms were recognized by the Southern California Football Association as Northern Conference Players of the Week for Week 7. Constantine earned Offensive Player of the Week honors for the conference and Simms was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for their efforts in Saturday's 45-30 victory over Canyons.
  • Pirates Handle CoC to Open Northern Conference Play
    October 12, 2017
    On a special Thursday Night Edition of Pirate football, VC scored three touchdowns in the first seven minutes of play en route to a 45-30 victory over College of the Canyons to open Northern Conference play at the Sportsplex. Running back Gil Scott Jackson had two rushing touchdowns and another on a pass reception, and quarterback Jake Constantine was 24-32 for 382 yards and four scores to lead SCFA No. 8 Ventura, as the three-time defending Northern Conference champions opened their title defense.
  • Mallory Earns SCFA Player of the Week Honor

    Ventura College wide receiver Kendric Mallory has earned Player of the Week honors of the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference. The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Dayton, OH product pulled in 12 catches for 90 yards and three touchdowns in leading No. 9 Ventura to the 44-34 upset victory over No. 3 and previously undefeated Saddleback.
  • Pirates Sink Gauchos in Come-From-Behind Victory
    September 30, 2017
    Victories come at a premium in the upper echelon of the National Division of the Southern California Football Association. The 9th-ranked Pirate football team has found that out this season, falling twice on the road to top-ranked opponents. Saturday they put together their best performance of the season and came from behind to defeat No. 3 Saddleback 44-34 at the VC Sportsplex heading into their bye week and Northern Conference action with momentum in their back pocket.
  • Pirate Comeback Bid Falls Short at Riverside
    September 23, 2017
    After falling behind 21-6 in the early in the second quarter, and trailing 42-20 early in the fourth, the Pirate football team mounted a furious comeback at Riverside Saturday that fell just short in their 42-34 loss to the Tigers. Quarterback Jake Constantine passed for 302 yards and three touchdowns and Thomas Duckett had 163 yards on the ground on 22 carries. Wide Received Kendric Mallory had nine catches for 150 yards and a score for VC (2-2).
  • Turnier and Simms Headline Weekly SCFA Honors
    September 19, 2017
    Defensive end Kenny Turnier and wide receiver Savion Simms headlined the weekly honors from the Southern California Football Association, earning Player of the Week honors for the Northern Conference. Turnier was named the conference defensive player of the week while Sims garnered the special teams honor for week 3 of the season.
  • VC Claims Home Opener Big Over Orange Coast
    September 16, 2017
    There was an invasion of Pirates Saturday at the VC Sportsplex. The invasion by the Pirates of the South from Orange Coast College were soundly turned back by the Ventura College Pirates of the North 51-10 in VC's 2017 home opener. Ventura dominated the game, outgaining OCC 541-295 and winning the turnover battle 3-0. Thomas Duckett had 121 yards rushing with a touchdown on 13 carries and Kendric Mallory posted 10 pass receptions for 73 yards and a score. Defensive end Kenny Turnier had nine tackles, including two for a loss, a fumble recovery and an interception for the VC defense.
  • Turnovers Cost Pirates Big at Mt. SAC
    September 09, 2017
    One of the recurring themes in football is the winner of the turnover battle wins the game. That philosophy held true Saturday night as the Pirate football team turned the ball over six times, including three that were returned for touchdowns, in their 55-29 loss at Mt. San Antonio College. The fifth-ranked Pirates fell behind 27-0 in the first quarter, and had a second half comeback bid foiled by a pair of defensive touchdowns by the Mounties.
  • Watson, Pacheco Earn SCFA PoW Honors
    September 06, 2017
    The Pirate football team capped a highly successful opening week of the season with a pair of Northern Conference Player of the Week honors from the Southern California Football Association. Cronerback Jaylen Watson claimed the week's defensive award while defensive back and punt returner Alvin Pacheco was named the Special Teams Player of the Week.
  • VC Claims "Big Game" Trophy With Season-Opening Win
    September 02, 2017
    Turns out that the 51st edition of the "Big Game" for Ventura College's football team at Santa Barbara wasn't all that big. The Pirates dominated from the beginning, and despite some opening-day mistakes, came away from SBCC's La Playa Stadium with a 44-6 victory and the traveling trophy. Freshman running back Thomas Duckett had an outstanding day with 145 yards on 17 carries with a touchdown while the VC defense held the Vaqueros scoreless for nearly 58 minutes of football in the win.
  • Jeff Fischer Named New Quarterbacks Coach at VC
    August 20, 2017
    Ventura College football is pleased to announce that Jeff Fischer has been hired as the program's new quarterback coach and a full-time kinesiology instructor at the college. Fisher comes to VC after a successful four-plus season stint at Cerritos College where he served as the Falcon's passing game coordinator working with tight ends and wide receivers. He was a student assistant working with the offense and quarterbacks at Utah State in 2011.
