FOOTBALL: Six Pirate football players have earned first-team All-Southern California Football Association Northern Conference honors while another three earned second-team honors in voting by the conference coaches. Aaron Stanton and Paul Harris received unanimous selections as all-purpose back and return specialist, respectively. Stanton actually earned three first team nods, including running back and second-team return specialist. Brad Odeman, Dylan McDaniel, and Greg Hughes were named first team on offense while Patrick Hall was honored on defense.
Odeman and McDaniel, both sophomores led the high powered Pirate offense along with freshman Stanton at running back. Hughes, also a freshman, provided strength at offensive tackle. Freshman Antonio Haynes was VC's lone second-team offensive selection at offensive guard.
Hall, a freshman, anchored a young Pirate defense from his safety position and Harris was an outstanding return specialist for Ventura. Sophomore Alex Nelson and Stanton earned second-team defensive honors at punter and return specialist, respectively.
Ventura also had seven players who were named honorable mention all-conference for 2013. Outside linebacker Ronny Camacho was the lone sophomore earning that distinction, along with freshmen Kevon Mitchell (wide receiver), Kurt McCormick (tight end), Gary Jr. Wortham (defensive tackle), Ben Dixon (defensive end), Antonio Cowart (cornerback) and David Emanuel (cornerback).
The Pirates ended the season at 6-5, qualifying for their third straight bowl appearance, a first iin school history. They were 4-2 in the Northern Conference and tied for second place.
