FOOTBALL: The Pirate football team won at Bakersfield's Memorial Stadium for the first time ever Saturday night in part due to a tough defensive effort. Leading the charge was defensive back Antonio Cowart, who had a monster game. The 6-foot-1 freshman had five tackles, including one for a loss, three pass break-ups and a pair of interceptions to lead VC to its 24-16 victory over the Renegades. Cowart has earned the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his efforts.
