FOOTBALL:  Pirate sophomore Brad Odeman is on a roll. For the third straight game he threw for five touchdowns, and Saturday against Los Angeles Harbor he ran for another as Ventura rolled past the Seahawks 46-6 at the VC Sportsplex. Odeman completed 33 of 47 pass attempts for 432 yards, and still has not thrown an interception in 2013. Kevon Mitchell was Odeman's most productive target Saturday with seven catches for 129 yards and a score. Meanwhile the Pirate defense held Harbor to 161 total yards on the night.

The Pirates (2-1) started fast with three touchdowns on their first three drives of the game. Mitchell hauled in a 33 yard pass from Odeman, taking it to the end zone to culminate Ventura's opening drive just 4:14 into the contest. Odeman followed that up with a 12-yard scoring run at the 5:12 point of the opening period, and hit Kurt McCormack with a 1-yard pass on the next drive. With three Kevin Kircher PAT's, the Pirates led 21-0 at the end of the first quarter.

Patrick Hall intercepted a Harbor pass at the 11:38 mark of the second period, and subsequently VC scored on a 13-yard pass from Odeman to Dylan McDaniel. The Pirates closed out the first half scoring when Kircher nailed a 26 yard field goal with 1:25 remaining to make the score 30-0 at intermission.

The Seahawks took the opening drive of the third period in for a score, and the two teams battled to a stalemate for most of the period following. Ventura managed to find paydirt on an Odeman to Devan Lesley scoring strike from 29-yards out late in the quarter, and the VC defense cashed in a poor snap on a Harbor punt into a two-point safety with 54 seconds on the clock.

Ventura received the LAHC free kick, and three plays later, they scored again on Odeman's 48-yard pass and run to Riley Smith on the final play of the third quarter. Both teams failed to score in the final period, setting the final margin at 46-6.

Odeman continues to use all of his receivers as 12 Pirates caught a pass in the game. McDaniel had seven receptions for 123 yards while Aaron Stanton and Frankie Estanol each had six receptions for 40 and 35 yards, respectively. Cameron Malvo led the Pirate defense with 11 tackles while Marquis Harris and Anthony Owens each registered eight stops.

Ventura opens Northern Conference action on the road next weekend, Sept. 28, at Bakersfield at 7:00 pm. They will return home on Saturday Oct. 5 as Moorpark comes calling in the annual Citrus Cup game at 6:00 pm. Both games can be seen and heard live on www.socalcollegesports.com.
