FOOTBALL: For years, the Ventura College football team has been one of the teams waiving their arms in the background. That ended emphatically last fall. The Pirates were impossible to miss as they rolled to their first 10-0 regular season in school history, winning their first SCFA Northern Conference title and hosting a Southern California semifinal. When the preseason polls were released last week, VC was prominently placed in the region (No. 4), state (No. 6) and nation (No. 8). "Now we've made a place at the table," head coach Steve Mooshagian said. "That's the way I look at it."
