Centerfielder Henry Borjas had three hits and a run scored in the Pirates' WSC opening loss to Moorpark Thursday at Pirate Park.

It was one of those days for the Pirate baseball team as they dropped their Western State Conference North Division opener to rival Moorpark at Pirate Park on Thursday. Henry Borjas had three hits and a run scored for VC (6-5, 0-1) and Mason Reid hit a sacrifice fly for an RBI.

Pirate pitching had a difficult day from the start, giving up three runs in each of the first three innings to the Raiders.

Ventura got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third. Borjas singled to lead things off and Yuki Kawashima followed with another single. Dylan Jackson walked to load the bases and Reid hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Borjas. Unfortunately the Pirates were not able to get a clutch hit in the frame and they were limited to the single run.

That would be the only offense VC was able to muster as MC continued to keep the line moving in posting the 20-1 decision.

Fortunately, the Pirates have little time to contemplate the loss as they will take on Moorpark on the road the next two days. On Friday Feb. 23 they will make up the rain-out from earlier in the week and the teams will battle again on Saturday Feb. 24 at 1:00 pm to close the series.
