Awards Keep Rolling in for VC's Calvin

The post-season awards keep rolling in for Pirate sophomore Reiss Calvin. After turning in one of the all-time best seasons and careers in VC baseball history, the VC shortstop has now been named to the 2023 ABCA/Rawlings Pacific Association Division All-Region and All-American teams. Calvin, from Woodbury, Minn., was named first team All-Region and first team All-American by the American Baseball Coaches Association.

Calvin had a record-breaking season on the diamond for the Ventura College baseball team. He established a new program record for career batting average (.406) and times on base (200), combining his two seasons at Pirate Park. He also tied the career record for total hits (140). In 2023 Calvin set single-season records in batting average (.435), hits (74) and times on base, (104), while tying school marks for hits in WSC play (45) and total bases (69). He was named the Most Valuable Player in the WSC North Division, earned first team All-State honors.

Calvin has signed a scholarship to play at the University of California Santa Barbara and is also a top prospect for the Major League Baseball draft later this month.

The Pacific Association Division of the ABCA is comprised of junior colleges from the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) and the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC). The selection process is led by the ABCA Pacific Association Division All-America Committee with coach representatives from Southern California, Northern California and the NWAC.
