Ventura Shuts Out Hancock in Santa Maria

VC center fielder Connor hickey had a triple with two RBI and a run scored Tuesday in the Pirates' 6-0 win at Allan Hancock in Santa Maria.

VC pitchers Wilson Spinks, Sebastian Garcia and Logan Knight combined to scatter seven hits and allow no runs in the Pirates' 6-0 shutout win at Allan Hancock College Tuesday. Matthew Beach was 2-3 with a solo home run and two runs scored while Connor Hickey and Gage Allen each recorded a hit with two runs batted in and a run scored. Haiden Letzing and Yuki Kawashima also recorded two hits apiece for Ventura (11-15, 6-7).

Spinks was solid in the start on the mound, throwing into the sixth inning to pick up the win. He scattered six hits and had three strikeouts while not recording a walk on the day. 

Garcia came on in relief in the sixth with runners at first and second and no outs, retiring the side with no damage done before Knight came on to retire nine of the 10 batters he faced with four K's to close out VC's second straight shutout. The Pirates have now not allowed a run over their last 20 innings played.

Ventura broke out with five runs n the top of the second inning. With one out Andrew Savage was hit by a pitch and Beach drew a walk. Caden Stillwell singled to load the bases before Allen hit a two-RBI single to left field. Hickey followed with a bases-clearing triple for another two runs and Reiss Calvin hit an RBI single for he 5-0 Pirate lead.

An inning later, Beach hit a two-out solo home run to center for the 6-0 margin.

Ventura continues the series against the Bulldogs at Pirate Park on Thursday March 30. First pitch is slated for 2:00 pm.
